SPECTANK

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SOAKTANK RENTAL?

The rental on all the tanks includes; supplying and installing the tank, training & retraining of staff on the use of the tank, draining, cleaning, refilling and adding the D-CARB on a monthly basis, all maintenance and repairs due to normal wear and tear. There will be charges if the tank is damaged due to customer negligence.

WHAT IS THE DETERGENT USED IN THE SOAKTANK?

It is a mixture of D-CARB, a proprietary mix of 13 chemicals to aid decarbonising, and water.

IS D-CARB POWDER OR THE DETERGENT CAUSTIC?

No, D-CARB is pH balanced and at 10.7 is safe for staff to use.

WILL THE SOAKTANK HELP IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MY HACCP SYSTEM OR OTHER CONTROL PROGRAMMES?

The Soaktank has a significant role to play in controlling the hazards faced by commercial kitchens, primarily by reducing the contamination and cross contamination of foodstuffs.

WHAT CAN I CLEAN IN THE SOAKTANK?

The Soaktank will clean filters, roasting tins, cooker tops, gas rings, pots, pans, griller tops, bread pans, baking trays and serving dishes. In fact you can clean the majority of equipment used by kitchens and bakeries. It is not recommended to put silver, silver plate, tin plate, enamel-coated pots, Teflon and silicon coated pans, wood or thin plastic items into the Soaktank.

CAN I PUT ALUMINIUM IN THE SOAKTANK?

Yes, D_CARB is tested non-corrosive to aluminium.

NORMALLY STRONG CHEMICALS ARE REQUIRED TO REMOVE BLACK CARBON AND CLEAN FILTERS?

Soaktank will effectively clean all types of kitchen equipment, and the liquid used is non-toxic, non-caustic, food safe and user friendly.

WILL THE DETERGENT KILL BACTERIA?

As the Soaktank system runs at over 75°C all harmful bacteria will die in the D-CARB solution, so all items removed from the Soaktank will be sanitised and clean.

IS THE SOLUTION SAFE TO DISPOSE OF IN THE DRAIN OR THE SINK?

Yes, there are no harmful chemicals only broken down organic material in the detergent.

DOES THE USE OF THE TANK HAVE COSHH IMPLICATIONS FOR THE USER?

The use of most detergents has COSHH implications and a MSDS and Risk Assessment will be provided as required.

WHAT SAFETY WEAR SHOULD BE USED?

We always recommend using heat resistant rubber gloves, safety goggles and an apron when loading or unloading the tank with utensils.

WILL THE SOAKTANK FIT INTO MY KITCHEN?

Soaktank manufacture a range of tanks to suit all requirements. The smaller tanks are designed to fit under work surfaces. Tanks can also be custom built.

HOW LONG MUST ITEMS REMAIN IN THE SOAKTANK?

This depends on the item but generally between 20 minutes and 24 hours. Items should not be left in the tank longer than 24 hours as they must be removed, thoroughly washed and rinsed and put back in the Soaktank if required.

WHAT IF A UTENSIL DOESN'T CLEAN AFTER AN OVERNIGHT SOAK?

Some items may not clean fully after 12 hours. Remove them from the system, rinse them off and rub off any loose carbon and put them back in for another 12 hours if necessary. Remember that once they are clean to keep them in this condition will only require short soak periods in the future.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD ITEMS BE CLEANED IN THE SOAKTANK?

This will vary depending upon the usage of the utensils and equipment. The amount of fat, grease and carbon build up will also dictate how often things are cleaned in the Spectank. It is recommended that a schedule be drawn up to ensure that the utensils and equipment get cleaned on a regular basis. The Soaktank system should be in constant use.

IS IT NECESSARY TO CLEAN EQUIPMENT DAILY?

Not necessarily. But with the Soaktank working 24 hours a day, every day it is wise to make use of it. Your equipment will be cleaner, meaning better hygiene, reduced risks of fire and other hazards and you will be saving money.

WILL D-CARB DAMAGE SILICON OR TEFLON COATINGS?

Items left in the Soaktank longer than 24 hours and cleaned too often will over time lose their coating. Items already damaged and then placed in the Soaktank will cause the solution to “lift” coatings away from the metal surface.

WHAT IS THE RESIDUE THAT SOMETIMES STAYS ON THE EQUIPMENT?

In certain areas with very hard water, the liquid can react with the calcium in the water, and leave a residue on the equipment being cleaned. This residue is harmless but it should be wiped off before you soak the equipment and make it ready for use.

WHAT HAPPENS IF FOOD GETS INTO THE SOAKTANK?

Your unit will start to smell and you could damage the equipment.

CAN I STILL USE THE SOLUTION AFTER IT’S COOLED DOWN AND BEEN REHEATED?

Yes. Even though you can't add D-CARB powder to cold water as it won't dissolve, once it is in suspension it will remain there. Care should be taken however not to allow the liquid to cool down as to reheat it to the operating temperature will take time.

SHOULD THE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY BE DISCONNECTED UNDER NORMAL USE?

No. Even at times when you have nothing in soak, you should keep the power switched on. To reheat the solution to operating temperature will cost considerably more in electricity than maintaining the temperature.

HOW OFTEN DO SOAKTANK CHANGE THE SOLUTION?

The solution in the tank including the D-CARB powder will last for a month at a time. Only the surface needs to be “skimmed” every few days to remove surface fats and oils, and it may need topping up with clean water.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SOAKTANK BREAKS DOWN?

Contact the nearest service agent for your area and they will attend to the problem as soon as possible.
